More on Sunday hunting
Published: Dec 01, 2008

Do bird-watchers

pay for a license?

Regarding the Nov. 20 editorial and the Nov. 21 letter in favor of keeping the ban on Sunday hunting in New Jersey:

It never ceases to amaze me how someone getting a free ride - in this case, the use of lands bought by hunters - can demand anything. More

Civilized world will not tolerate Mumbai carnage

All of our prayers go out for the victims and their families in Mumbai. All terrorists should realize that regardless of their warped understanding, good people are sick and tired of putting up with their cowardly acts of violence, and there will always be good people to risk their own lives to confront and defeat them.

County should bail out employees before Boscov's

I almost choked on my Cheerios when I read the Nov. 20 story on the front of the Region section, "County's choice: Furloughs or layoffs," then read the story on the back page of the section, "County says loan bailout for Boscov's not done deal."

So how about a bailout for SUV owners, too?

I have a sport utility vehicle purchased when gas was cheap and vehicle prices were pretty decent, so you can imagine my sigh of relief when gas prices plunged after this past summer. I had to deal with dirty looks at the gas station, the opinions of those who thought the gas guzzlers should be banned and, of course, the immense strain on my fuel budget.

Don't change New Jersey's ban on Sunday hunting

Currently, New Jersey prohibits hunting on public lands on Sundays. This will change if a bill to allow bow-and-arrow deer hunting on Sundays passes in the state Assembly. The same bill already passed the state Senate by a wide margin. Only six senators had the courage to oppose the powerful special-interest hunting lobby. Another bill in the state Senate would allow all hunting of all game animals seven days a week during the appropriate seasons.

Taxpayers can't afford Beesleys bridge

On the front page of the Nov. 13 Press, a headline reads "NJ budget shortfall may triple to $1.2B.," and directly below it is the continuing saga of the Beesleys Point Bridge and how the state will put up $20 million to repair the bridge. More appalling is that the owners have agreed to pay back the $900,000 they were loaned in 1997 to repair the bridge on the condition that the state make the necessary repairs and keep the bridge open. Who are they to dictate terms for repayment of a loan that was obtained under false pretenses?
